Much of the Duck throughout Europe is raised for Foie Gras. For this reason, ALLIED rarely sources duck down from European regions and only does so when the strictest animal welfare can be certified. Any time you see “European or French” duck down marketed, it almost certainly comes from birds that have been force fed and thus, can not be certified to the RDS and will not be bought or sold by ALLIED.

As Geese are larger birds, it is rare that the down cluster would be small enough (particularly in Europe) to only provide 550 Fill Power for a 75% cluster content. Fibers are sometimes blended in by suppliers to offer “Goose Down” at these lower fill powers for marketing purposes.

In general, most 950 Fill Power and above down will be sourced from smaller collector-based supply chains. This material in these supply chains most often comes from gray birds. On occasion, extremely high fill power white material will be sourced from certified parent farms, but is often reserved far in advance.

Duck are much smaller birds than Geese and tend to be eaten at a much younger age in order to provide for a more tender and less gamey meat. Because of this, the down clusters of duck generally can not achieve the highest fill powers.

Almost all of ALLIED’s Goose down sourced in China is processed in one of our Chinese owned facilities and not shipped or sold from our US facility. Contact us for availability and cost of shipping from China.
